This Heritage Weekend, Adele Lucas Promotions pulled out all the stops at the Soweto Festival Expo. And the visitor numbers say it all – more than 30 000 people packed out the venue from
Friday to Sunday.
Now in its seventh year, the festival was held at the recently renovated Joburg Expo Centre at Nasrec, and saw a 66% increase in visitor numbers compared to last year. "We are thrilled that our decision to move to Nasrec has been vindicated by the enthusiastic response we received from sponsors, exhibitors, the media and the visiting public," says Toby Chance, managing director of Adele Lucas Promotions.

This occasion marks a milestone in the evolution of Soweto’s largest annual event, the Soweto Festival Expo. Now in its seventh year, for the first time the Festival Expo has moved from its traditional home in the township to this magnificent purpose built and newly renovated venue, Joburg Expo Centre.
White star maize meal to sponsor the Soweto festival expo
Soweto Festival Expo organiser, Adele Lucas Promotions, has announced that White Star maize meal will be one of the sponsors of the three-day festival and part sponsor of the Miss Teen Soweto pageant.
White Star has put its weight behind Miss Teen Soweto pageant in the form of sponsorship of production of the pageant. Miss Teen Soweto 2011 and her runners up will receive their cash prizes, flowers, and tiaras, while Miss Personality will walk away with a new cellphone. Other finalists will receive hampers, all thanks to White Star. For those who can’t make it to the show, White Star has made it possible for production team of Soweto TV to record the show and broadcast it on 1 Oct.
Art worlds collide at the Soweto Festival Expo
This year’s Soweto Festival Expo will showcase stunning artworks from both mainstream and township settings, giving art lovers visiting the festival’s Art Pavilion a glimpse into how these two worlds can complement and differ from one another.
Traditionally, township artworks are often fraught with bright colours and inspired by events which take place in township environments on a daily basis. Mainstream art on the other hand, is far more contemporary with varying themes.

The Soweto Festival Expo, now in its seventh year, takes a major step forward from September 23 to 25 2011 with its move to the Joburg Expo Centre at Nasrec. The festival is a key annual event that brings together SMMEs, the youth, community organisations, consumers and others to celebrate Soweto’s richness and diversity.
Molobi Enterprises comes full circle at Soweto Festival Expo
Each year when the Soweto Festival Expo rolls around, there’s great excitement at Molobi Enterprises – it was this event that provided critical exposure for the fledgling company way back in 2005.
“I started growing my original clientele thanks to exposure at the first Soweto Festival, when my company was still very new,” recalls Molobi Enterprises owner Malerato Molobi.
Back then the company handled distribution of stock to small businesses in the informal sector. “In the beginning we basically supplied spazas, tuck shops and a small percentage of corporates with cooldrinks and snacks for resale,” she says.
