Table soccer tournament and pool tournament

The activity hall will host a table soccer tournament organised by the South African Association of Table Soccer, as well as a pool tournament. The eight soccer tables and eight pool tables will be positioned to give maximum visibility. The three-day tournament will have a champion for each sport, who will walk away with an awesome prize, while professional and amateur players will be given an opportunity to show off their skills and enjoy a day playing their favourite sport.

Graffiti wall

Graffiti has evolved into a pop culture activity often related to hip hop music and b-boying (break dancing). It has become a genre of artistic expression, worthy of display in galleries and exhibitions. The Soweto Festival Expo graffiti wall will showcase the art form where visitors can interact with artists and be given an opportunity to create graffiti wall art.

Tennis coaching clinics

SA Tennis is erecting and managing a full-sized indoor tennis court for young and old tennis enthusiasts to pit their skills against coaches and pros eager to promote this sport to the Soweto community.

The Soweto Open is the last remaining ATP tour event on the South African calendar. Played at the Arthur Ashe Stadium in Jabavu, it attracts top-ranked players from around the world.

Reptile park

The reptile park is always a hugely popular attraction at the Soweto Festival Expo. While scary for some, the opportunity to handle snakes, lizards and other slimy and scaly animals is just too much for others to resist!

Pick-a-Box Game Show

Pick-a-box, otherwise known as Money or the Box, is a quiz game which often features on TV and draws huge audiences. Hosted by a celebrity and attracting entrants from the general public, the attraction is not just the money and homeware prizes, but the fun and excitement of the questions and answers and the roars from the crowd at winners and losers. This quiz will be conducted from the stage set up at the activity pavilion.

Youth programme

In partnership with the Gauteng City Region Academy, a programme of activities aimed at the youth (15 - 30 age group) will inform, inspire and entertain using a combination of music, presentations and other activities. The goal is to assist young people to make decisions about their careers, education and life choices.

Outdoor Activities

Climbing wall

An outdoor wall climbing facility will be built in a prominent outdoor space in the festival grounds. This increasingly popular form of rock climbing performed on artificial structures will attempt to mimic the experience of outdoor rock climbing. It will be an exciting attraction for amateurs to professional rock climbers and also visitors who have never experienced the sport the chance to try it out and learn more about it.

Braai Day

Braai Day is a celebration of our great country and its unique national pastime. It aims to unite all South Africans on 24 September by encouraging them to partake in a fun and tangible activity shared by all demographic groups and religious denominations. The Soweto Festival Expo braai will have family and friends coming together to celebrate Heritage Day and whip up a meaty feast.

Picnic Day

Picnic Day will have family and friends enjoying the great outdoors on a September Spring Sunday with the fantastic live entertainment sponsored by e.tv. Visitors can bring picnic blankets and baskets and be entertained as they relax with family and friends.

KidZone

The KidZone is a secure outdoor area dedicated to the entertainment and edutainment of children aged three to nine. Toy exhibitors will showcase the latest in educational and entertaining toys, while jumping castles, drawing desks and face painting will keep the children busy and ensure that they have fun.

Games and rides

A Soweto Festival Expo amusement park will entertain visitors with thrilling rides such as the Looping Star and the Anaconda and specific rides for children and teenagers.

Boxing championship

A three-day amateur boxing championship will be held in a specially constructed boxing ring in a prominent outdoor space. Subject to the successful conclusion of negotiations currently underway, this will climax with the South African Heavyweight Championship on the Sunday afternoon, an attraction bound to draw the crowds in large numbers.

Nintendo gaming area

Nintendo gaming areas will give families and kids the opportunity play with and experience the Nintendo Wii and 3DS games.

Weber cooking demos

An interactive Weber chisa nyama activation will showcase mouth-watering dishes utilising the Weber braai stand, as well as its versatility from making scrumptious main meals to delectable deserts. This will be followed by a public tasting.

Bodybuilding

The Federation of South African Amateur Bodybuilders will showcase the dynamic sport of bodybuilding. The federation is a non-profit organisation that has committed itself to promoting and developing the sport in South Africa, with an emphasis on townships and rural areas.

Red Bull Extreme Zone

In keeping with their reputation as one of South Africa’s most prominent brands, Red Bull will thrill visitors with their Extreme Zone and get the adrenaline pumping!
